Why it matters
Every share link that leaves your WhatsApp, iMessage, or email carries a string of tracking parameters that identify the sender and the context. Clearing them before you forward a link prevents Amazon, Google, and Meta from re-identifying you across contexts. It also prevents downstream aggregators from attributing the click to the platform that was paid for it - which is often the correct ethical outcome.
Not a fingerprinting defence
Stripping URL parameters does not protect you from browser fingerprinting, IP-based tracking, or cross-site cookies - those need a browser like Brave or Mullvad Browser, a VPN like Proton VPN or Mullvad, and a content blocker like uBlock Origin.
